Summary: The Purchasing Coordinator will be responsible for sourcing, ordering, and re-ordering key components used in our Rock Hill and Salt Lake City manufacturing facilities in an Eco-Friendly surrounding. This role will also be responsible to work with the Warehousing/Operations Team in both facilities procuring non-inventory supplies required for the day to day operation.  The Purchasing Coordinator will closely monitor inventory levels and order points for the timely receipt, executing a strong approach to cost savings, quality and vendor compliance. Working along side of the MMM, this candidate will work with various Manufacturing and Warehousing Managers, supporting their various roles. This is a growth position that requires very good communication, organizational, and Microsoft Office skills.

 

Essential Functions (include but not limited to):

Working in a NetSuite and Excel environment, the Purchasing Coordinator is responsible for the sourcing  and ordering of the domestic raw materials and packaging material used in all aspects of the manufacturing area.  This is to include counter sourcing, negotiating pricing and developing a network of vendors and suppliers domestically.  This candidate will develop and review forecasts and ensure all materials are on site to support the production runs needed to meet the timelines and minimum inventory levels specified. 

Additonally, the Purchasing Coordinator will manage vendors, timely purchasing and inventory levels for all non-inventoried items used by the Warehousing/Operations Departments.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Procurement of Production Materials:
    • Source and purchase raw materials such as foam, fiber, and other essential materials required for mattress and pillow production.
    • Coordinate with the Manufacturing Team in reviewing and executing production forecast and scheduling in a JIT warehousing environment.
    • Manage closeout and obsolescence inventory strategizing runout plan with Manufacturing, and Forecasting/ Planning Team
    • Coordinate with Manufacturing Manager on all new samples and supply requirement for the timely release of new product. 
  1. Packaging and Non-Inventory Supply Management:
    • Manage the procurement of all packaging materials required for the manufactured products.
    • Manage the procurement of all packaging materials including cartons, stretch film, packing tape and other related operational supplies.
    • Coordinate with suppliers to maintain vendor locker-stock inventory levels where applicable.
  2. Quality and Vendor Compliance:
    • Collaborate with manufacturing and Warehousing Teams to support the Quality Department in identifying and processing of vendor damage credits for production and supply items.
    • Provide information to Vendor Compliance Department regarding vendor Scorecard and Performance.
    • Coordinate RMA’s with vendors assuring proper system credits and inventory accuracy.
  3. Cost Management and Improvement:
    • Continuously search for opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality standards.
    • Evaluate supplier performance and explore new vendors to ensure competitive pricing and product improvement.
    • Negotiate with suppliers to secure favorable pricing and terms.
  4. Manage Purchase Order Process
  • Responsible to accurately enter and communicate newly created purchase orders to vendors.
  • Coordinate with Transportation and Receiving Departments, the timely scheduling and receipt of Raw material and Supplies.
  • Coordinate with vendors, backordered material updating date and quantity changes on purchase orders.
  • Perform daily POE process for accurate expected facility receipt dating.
  1. Eco-Friendly Belief:
    • Participate in Bedgears Carbon-Neutral Initatives solutioning for recycling and sustainability on current and future raw material and supply items.
    • Coordinate recycle buyback program for manufacturing, warehousing and building maintaince material.
    • Report results as required to management.   
  2. Vendor Relations:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers.
    • Address any issues related to product quality, delivery, or pricing.
  3. Reporting and Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate records of purchases, inventory, and supplier communications.
    • Report purchasing activities and cost-saving initiatives to the Manufacturing Materials Manager.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and have IDs needed to verify.
  • English proficient (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension)
  • Computer savvy; proficient with Microsoft Office

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently.
  • Ability to reach above shoulder, reach outward, handle/finger objects, and bend/squat/kneel occasionally.
  • Proficiency in typing/keyboard usage.

 

Education/Experience/License Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience in procurement and sourcing, preferably within the bedding or related industry.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage supplier relationships effectively.
  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Familiarity with foam, fibers, threads, and boxes sourcing is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes and standards.
  • Analytical mindset with proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with Bedgear branding and products is a plus.

 

Sensory Requirements: Should have working use of hearing and vision with or without the use of corrective lenses/hearing aids to be able to read paperwork, work on a computer screen for an extended period of time, and frequently speak on the phone.

 

Work Environment:

  • Primary environment is an indoor office setting.
  • Secondary environments include warehouse and manufacturing settings.

 

Language Skills: English proficiency required (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension). Knowledge of an additional language(s) is a plus!

 

Mathematical Skills: Basic arithmetic and algebra

 

Reasoning Ability: Solid understanding of branding and marketing communications strategies and tactics; excellent planning and problem-solving skills with limited resources; ability to effectively prioritize and project manage multiple assignments at any given time. Ability to use judgement to make important decisions.
