Summary: The Bedgear Research & Innovation Lab employees are on the front lines of innovation in performance sleep and recovery systems. Our team works together to help the company grow and expand to stay ahead of the curve. We allow for a high degree of freedom in different research projects, to permit researchers to learn and grow at a pace that benefits everyone.
We are looking for mechanical engineers who are pursuing a master's degree in mechanical engineering, or who have completed their masters. We are looking for individuals that are experienced with CAD Software and are looking for research and design experience. You will be tasked to create CAD designs and participate in a fast-paced fabrication process. Examples of projects may include the designing of sleep pods for athlete’s recovery rooms, devices for material testing, and equipment for bio-mechanical measurements. Fast prototyping and innovative research are at the core of the experience here at Bedgear’s Research & Innovation Labs.
Essential Functions (include but not limited to):
- Use CAD Software (SolidWorks) to produce innovative designs and 3D models/assembly for products and presentations.
- Interpret design information from existing plans, sketches, and visualizations to create detailed mechanical models and building plans.
- Produce 3D models that are expected to be 3D printed.
- Transfer mechanical designs of projects to fabrication firms, company partners, and contracted engineers/designers.
- Analyzing data to effectively design new systems or modify existing systems.
- Analyzing data related to fabric and material testing.
- Take an active role in designing different products while brainstorming ideas with team members.
- Expected to travel and collaborate with contracted engineers, field technicians, and Bedgear staff.

The Mechanical Engineer Intern may be required to perform additional duties, as well as be tasked with special projects as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (and currently persuing a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering)
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and have IDs needed to verify
- English proficient (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension)
Desired Skills:
- Experience with hands on fabrication. (preferred)
- CAD Software Experience (SolidWorks) (preferred)
- Experience with pneumatic systems (A plus but not required)
- Experience with UL Safety Standards (A plus but not required)
- Programming Languages (MATLAB or Python) (A plus but not required)
- Experience in the field of Biomedical Engineering (A plus but not required)
- Experience in electrical design with embedded applications with the use of microcontrollers such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi (A plus but not required)
- Experience in the field of carpentry (A plus but not required)
- A project portfolio
Education/Experience/License Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (and currently persuing a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering)
- Analytical mindset with proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with Bedgear branding and products is a plus.

Sensory Requirements: Should have working use of hearing and vision with or without the use of corrective lenses/hearing aids to be able to read paperwork, work on a computer screen for an extended period of time, and frequently speak on the phone.

Language Skills: English proficiency required (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension). Knowledge of an additional language(s) is a plus!
Mathematical Skills: Basic arithmetic and algebra
Reasoning Ability: Solid understanding of branding and marketing communications strategies and tactics; excellent planning and problem-solving skills with limited resources; ability to effectively prioritize and project manage multiple assignments at any given time. Ability to use judgement to make important decisions.
Work Environment: Indoor office environment most times.
